World Sjögren's Day
World Sjögren’s Day is observed annually on 23 July to increase awareness of Sjögren’s syndrome, a chronic autoimmune disease affecting moisture-producing glands. Named after Dr Henrik Sjögren, who first described the condition in 1933, the syndrome primarily causes dryness in the mouth, eyes, skin, and other areas. It affects about one in 70 people, predominantly women, and can lead to complications such as lymphoma. The day is supported globally by organisations including the Sjögren’s Foundation and in Australia by Rare Voices Australia and the Australian Rheumatology Association.
