Female mosquitoes lay between 50 and 170 eggs daily, and the average lifespan of an adult mosquito is about 20 days. In their search for food, mosquitoes are capable of flying tens of kilometres, demonstrating their significant mobility and adaptability.
Dangers and Diseases Transmitted by Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes are the deadliest vectors of transmissible diseases among insects and small animals. They are responsible for spreading a range of serious illnesses, including malaria, yellow fever, dengue fever, meningitis, encephalitis, and West Nile virus. Malaria, in particular, is a transmissible infectious disease marked by recurring fever attacks, anaemia, and enlargement of the spleen and liver. According to the World Health Organization, malaria poses a threat to approximately 40% of the global population. Each year, there are over 250 million reported cases of malaria worldwide, resulting in around half a million deaths. In modern times, synthetic mosquito repellents have become popular; however, these products often contain toxic compounds that may pose safety concerns. Medical professionals recommend that individuals who are allergic to insect bites treat the affected area with anti-allergic gels or creams, apply a cold compress, and take antihistamine medication to alleviate symptoms.
